So long "Excalibur"...

I don't know if any of you were aware of this, from

P-51 "Excalibur" S/N 45-11540 sold, moving to the Czech Republic
2 August 2011
Jim Reed owned 45-11540, "Excalibur" since 1998. It is now sold to Peter Turek and moving to the Czech Republic. :(

All may not be lost. About three years ago I read an article (don't remember where) that a company
in the Czech Rep. was setting up a factory to build replica P-51s. They just needed a real P-51 to test
out the machine and tool jigs. Something like the Flug Werks and their replica FW 190s. It might
have been in "Fly Past" magazine. The tone of the article was: "nice that some one was building new
P-51s but that it might ruin the original ones if they used new replica parts on the originals". I don't
see how that would be, since they have to hand make new parts to keep the originals flying.
I didn't have time to look it up tonight. Maybe someone can find the article.

If you have followed "heavy iron" for a while, this airplane was raced as "Queen B" for several years.

Happy trails..................
