Introduction and interest in Bodney and Col. James Mayden

Postby SAC » Sun Sep 01, 2013 1:53 pm

Hi, this is my first post on this forum, and I will introduce myself for the first time.
My name is John Wilson, and I have had an interest in the 8th AF, and Bodney in particular for almost 45 years.
I first visited in 1969 or thereabouts, and was most impressed by how complete the base still was 24 yrs after the war.
I have since visited many times on holiday, and although other interests have come along in the meantime , I still have a fascination with the place, and in particular what it represents.

I live in the UK and am currently researching Col. James Mayden's career with the 352nd.

Does anyone in the association know where he usually parked his P51's "Strawboss" and "Strawboss 2" on the field, and does anyone have photographs of him while he was at Bodney?

I have just visited the airfield again, and if anyone's interested I can post photos taken this weekend in the August sunshine.

Many thanks for reading this post, and I look forward to many interesting discussions in the future.
I am sure I have much to learn!

Cheers.....................John

Greetings, John! Glad to have you here.

I remember seeing an aerial photo of Bodney, with indications of where Preddy parked, etc. I can't seem to find it on my hard drives. Maybe someone who sees this will be able to post it.
