Poll: New 352nd Skin in Warbirds

Postby Todzilla » Tue Jul 15, 2008 7:31 pm

We won an event in Warbirds and now have the option of having a custom in-game skin produced for us. Given that we already have two skins in 487th FS colors, I am limiting this to 328th and 486th a/c only. Please vote for the one you would like to see created.

I changed my mind, keeping in mind the default skin quality. A lot of that detail on Cripes will get smudged out.

So... I cast my vote for Hell-er Bust.

Yellow tail and yellow lettering provide nice balance.

There's already a history of red tails in the game. No, they weren't OUR red rudders, but red is very common in the game. Yellow, not so much - at least on the allied side. :)

PS - half your images are showing as broken links.

Although my callsign is from "Cripes A Mighty", and I certainly love that scheme, I chose Don Bryan's "Little One III". I did so because he is still with us today and might actually get to see it when it's finished. I think he would get a kick out of that.
Derik (Whiznr) and I recently visited Don and he is always a joy to be around. :D

I am sure we will all like any of the choices as they are all worthy of doing.

Congrats to our virtual pilots who won this cool prize! 8)

Ditto....the yellow tail will be a little different. I was also under the assumption that all the PDC skins would eventually be turned into PPVs? Well at least I read that on the net somewhere.........

For some reason, I can't see the first and third pics, either at home or on my computer here at work.

Hell-er bust.....like the yellow too. Question...does this mean when we fly in the arena that other people will see us (352nd pilots) in blue nosed ponies or could anyone fly one? HK :?:

They're pics of Little One III and Dreamgirl from Wily's blog:

I'll remove them from above. Go to his page to see them.

I'm torn between the top three, but have to go with Cripes in honor of a hero who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

I appreciate a "well read" fighter pilot. For the life of me, I have NO CLUE as to what "PPV" means. Jman, if you know, can you please enlighten us as to what means? I "thought" that it was Pay Per View and was mainly associated with wrestling.

I have no idea what the PPV actually means in Warbirds, from I read it's what the ien "approved" skins are called. PDCs are the ones you can D/L here: http://www.pdc.warbirdsiii.com/index.ph ... in_limit=+

and only see on your FE while the PPVs will show on everyones while online.

I read about that here:

Theoretically, part of the "prize" was that ONLY the members of the 352nd can use the skin. It will be distributed ONLY throught the Boss.

Now, I still don't know how the new "visibility" code is working. iEN "says" that every player now sees the skin chosen by the "other" player. However, it is my experience that YOU have to have the skin chosen by the "other player" loaded or your computer can't display it. After all, the art work lives on OUR machines not the iEN computers. The code coming back from iEN can tell your machine what skin the other guy has, but IF it is not the "default" skin, I believe that you would have to have the skin loaded in your computer for it to display.

So, if nothing else, WE will be able to see the "winning" skin, other players "may" just see a bluenosed "default" mustang.

I have to go with the opportunity to honor a living hero. (in our small way)

-Little One III-

(I do like the yellow of the 486th though.)

Caruso makes a good point.

If changing my vote from Cripes to Little One III becomes the decisive swing, then go ahead and change it.

What would be cool would be if we had our own skin-guy(s) so that whoever is not selected we could still have them created in-house. Kraken & BBGN have done a great job for us in the past but are also busy with RL. Would be great if we had one or two more graphic artists to collaborate on a few of these projects. Would be great to see:

Preddy
Meyer
Bryan
Mitchell
McKibben
Rigby
Price
Moats
Halton
Patillo bros.
Brockelhurst

etc. All included.

Tyson pointed out to me that I had stated my vote - but had not entered it at the top of this thread.

Thought I would mention it incase anyone else missed the polls on the way in.

I'm trying, I'm trying...Have Photoshop and everything. I someday would like to have dibs on taking a shot at Mr. Preddy's ride...unless of course it is chosen.

Just sent off an e-mail today on a tip I got for an excellent P-51D template. You might say I need to get Kraken!! Kraken are you out there, hint-hint 8)

Remember that Kraken's template is for the B model. Most of the above would be D models but B/C's would be great have too.

For now no changing votes, but I originally cast my vote for Hell-er Bust for the above reasons. However, what if we gave them a hard one like Cripes a' Mighty with the barber pole on the reverse side, name under canopy, etc.? Would that force them to revisit how they do skins and make it a little more robust?

Very torn between Preddy, Bryan, and Heller. Would be cool to see all three...

Rgr...It was someone else for the P-51D template. Kraken is a wealth of information on the "How too". we have been exchanging e-mails as of late. I'm patiently awaiting his next steps.

I wonder where BBGN got his template for the "Miss Helen"? OR did he do his own....hhhmmmm.

Tod, my vote up top is for hell-er bust. I only changed it between email and here. I figured I could since this would be the "official" vote thread.

Tyson, I worked with a few people for my Miss Helen skin, but I'd say 75% of it is mine.

However, it is for a 2 generations old P-51D model, and will not work for the PPV's or new models.

hmmm negative, it will be the "Miss Helen", identical to the pdc skin which is BBgun's skin. If you have the Beta it is already in there and you can see the addition in the change.txt file.
